John 1:1-13

God is light and spoke light into existence. In Genesis after he created the heavens and the earth, his next act was to create light.

“The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. and God saw that the light was good.” (Genesis 1:2-4)

Light is good and light is life-giving. John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Light is central in the well-being of every living thing. It is life!

What makes light the light? The fact that it has no darkness in it. In Jesus there is NO darkness. There is NO sin. There is only light and life. He has to come and give us light. We need the light to live. Without him we are cursed to walk in darkness. The light penetrates the darkness and it flees.

In a dark room you can’t see. You have no perspective. There is no color or life, only darkness and emptiness. Turning on the lights brings everything into perspective. As we turn on lights throughout the day, let’s be thankful for the light.

THE LIGHT IS COMING...
